Each November, along with countless other student athletes, the country’s top tennis-playing high school seniors determine their collegiate futures on National Signing Day. Among the players from the class of 2012 who have committed to colleges includes reigning Easter Bowl Champion Kyle McPhillips, who won the first professional title of her career in June at the USTA Pro Circuit $10,000 event in her hometown of Cleveland, who has signed with UCLA. 2010 Easter Bowl and USTA International Spring Champion Krista Hardebeck, the 2012 class’ top-ranked player according to TennisRecruiting.net, will attend Stanford, while 2011 USTA Girls’ 18s National Spring runner-up Catherine Harrison will play collegiately at Georgia Tech.

A number of blue chip boys have committed today as well, including Michael Redlicki, the 2010 USTA Boys’ 16s National Champion who trains full-time at the USTA Training-Center Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla., who has committed to attend Duke University. Additionally, 2011 USTA Boys’ 18s National Spring runner-up Austin Smith will stay in his home state and attend the University of Georgia, while Texas native and French Open boys’ doubles finalist Shane Vinsant will make his decision later tonight.

Each year, many top junior players make the decision attend college as opposed to immediately turning pro, and the USTA is supporting collegiate tennis players more than ever before.
