In doubles play at the 66th Annual Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships, the seventh-seeded team of Lamar Remy of Roslyn, N.Y. & Alejandro Tabilo of Canada defeated Dennis Uspensky of Atlantic Beach, N.Y. & Sumit Nagal of India, 6-3, 6-3, for the Boys 16s title. The 16-year-old Remy is currently ranked 567th by the ITF, while the 16-year-old Uspensky is ranked 352nd by the ITF. In their march to the 2012 Boys 16s Championship, Remy & Tabilo also defeated another Long Islander, Greenvale, N.Y.’s Julian Zlobinsky (along with partner Andrey Rublev of Russia), the number two seeds, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

In the Boys 16s draw, Uspensky advanced all the way to the semifinals where he was defeated by eventual Boys 16s winner Rublev,  6-1, 4-6 ,6-1.

Also at the Orange Bowl, Taylor Townsend (Stockbridge, Ga.), the top seed in the Girls 18s draw, grinded out a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(2) victory over number five Carol Zhao of Canada. With Townsend’s singles victory of Zhao, and the doubles win of Great Britain’s Katy Dunne & Christina Makarova (San Diego) over Austria’s Barbara Haas & the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova, the 16-year old Townsend solidified her year-end ITF number one junior ranking, becoming the first American girl to hold that position since Gretchen Rush in 1982. Only Siniakova, the current world number three, could have caught Townsend in the year-end rankings, by winning the singles and doubles titles.

However, Townsend was stopped in the semifinals of the Girls 18s draw by eventual 2012 Orange Bowl Champion, Ana Konjuh of Croatia, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Jamie Loeb of Ossining, N.Y. fell to the number four seeded Belinda Benic of Switzerland in the second round, 6-3, 6-3 of the Girls 18s draw.
