Luiza Biktyakova won the Women’s Open tournament at the Long Beach Tennis Center this past weekend as the Uzbekistan native continues her comeback in competitive tennis.

The girl who started playing tennis at the age of six is beginning to find her form again in competitive tournaments. Biktyakova, who hails from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is a former WTA Player who was ranked as high as 875th in singles and as high as 860th when on the WTA Tour. Before playing professionally, she was a standout in international play, winning a Bronze Medal at the Youth Olympic Games and representing Uzbekistan twice at the Federation Cup.

She took her tennis talents first to Georgia College and State University, and then Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Biktyakova was a four-time all-American while attending the two junior colleges, also spending time ranked number one amongst junior college players.

Her competitive career came to a halt back in 2005 after a car accident forced her to miss time on the court. Biktyakova says that she is now finally feeling good again and once again competing at a high level, as evidenced by her recent tournament win at the Long Beach Tennis Center.

“It took quite a bit of time to recover and get the confidence back,” said Biktyakova, who also trains at Sportime New York. “Now, I am playing the tournaments again with full confidence. I was very excited to win a Women’s Open tournament at Long Beach Tennis Center.”
