Cardozo Upends Brooklyn Tech To Reach PSAL Semifinals

The Judges of Benjamin Cardozo moved into the New York City PSAL semifinals on Tuesday afternoon, edging out fourth-seed Brooklyn Tech 3-2.

Brooklyn Tech headed into this matchup without a loss all season long, and once again were led by its first and second singles players, Chelsea Williams and Nicole Semenov, respectively. Williams defeated Cardozo’s Katherine Kachkarov 10-2 to take the first singles flight, and Semenov beat won her match at second singles.

But the depth of the Cardozo team shined brightly on Tuesday. Isabel Balilo edged out Alina Abramoff 11-9 at third singles, and the Judges’ two doubles tandems won their matches.

Daniela Hernandez and Kristine Ngo defeated Liliko Chung and Masha Serjantov 10-8 at first doubles, and Nikhar Rathi and Renuka Surujnarain beat Maryna Bohdanovska and Mira Gupta 10-8 in the second doubles spot.

Cardozo moves into a semifinal matchup against top-seed and defending champions Bronx Science. 

The other “A” Division semifinal will pit second-seed Beacon against McKee/Staten Island Tech.

In New York City’s “B” Division, Lab Museum will take on Long Island City in the city championship.

Lab Museum knocked off The Scholars Academy 4-1 on Tuesday, while Long Island City continued its’ improbably run to the final as the 19th seed with a 5-0 triumph over Lincoln.
