Americans Jack Sock and Steve Johnson both won their respective quarterfinal matches at the ASB Classic on Thursday, setting up a matchup between the two Americans in the semifinals in Auckland, New Zealand.

Johnson took on fellow American John Isner in his quarterfinal bout, edging Isner in a third-set tiebreaker to advance with the 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(3) in two hours and 15 minutes.

The seventh-seeded Johnson fought off 19 aces from Isner and converted on 85 percent of his first servers, closing things out in the tiebreaker with a forehand net-cord winner.

Johnson will look to build off his upset and try to take out another American when he plays Sock in the semifinals.

Sock gave himself 25 break point chances against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in his quarterfinal, converting on four of them to outlast Chardy 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The other Auckland semifinal will see Portugal’s Joao Sousa take on eighth-seed Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis.

Sousa ousted Robin Haase of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-2, while Baghdatis knocked off Jiri Vesely 6-2, 6-4.
