Johanna Konta captured the second title of her career on Friday, cruising past world number three Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-2 to win the Apia International Sydney title.

Konta, who was born in Sydney, played aggressive tennis and used her power to neutralize Radwanska, defeating the Pole in an hour and 20 minutes.

“I think I’m just overall happy with how I was able to progress throughout this tournament. I felt each match that I was playing I was thinking a little more clearly and was, just, I guess, getting that much more match-tight, as the saying is,” said Konta. “But overall, very happy with the match I played today. I really felt I definitely maintained a high level throughout and I made it very difficult for her to do much today. Going into any match against Aga—I played her twice before—I knew it had to be nothing short of what it was today if I was to have a chance of coming through.”

Konta raced out to a 3-1 advantage in the opening set and never really looked back, playing virtually error-free tennis. She saved the only break point she faced, and converted on three of her own to move past Radwanska in straight sets, closing the match out with her seventh ace.

The title moves Konta up to ninth in the world ahead of next week’s Australian Open.
