Victoria Azarenka announced on Monday that she has withdrawn from the 2017 U.S. Open, issuing the following statement:

"I am sadly unable to compete in this year's US Open due to my ongoing family situation that I am working through. While I will dearly miss being in New York and playing in one of my favorite tournaments where I have enjoyed some of the best moments in my career, I am already looking forward to being back next year."

The announcement stems from an ongoing personal matter involving her son, Leo, and the father.

The two-time Grand Slam champion only returned to the tour in June. She will be replaced in the main draw by Japan’s Misa Eguchi.
