In a rematch of last year’s PSAL New York City championship, Beacon once again defeated Bronx Science, downing the Wolverines 4-1 in a season-opening match between two of the city’s top programs on Monday.

At the top of the Beacon singles lineup were sisters Kyra Bergmann and Lorraine Bergmann. Kyra was defeated by Christina Huynh in the first singles match, while Lorraine beat Sofie Levine 8-1 at second singles.

Beacon notched wins in both of the doubles matches to help anchor the victory. Niki Truszkowski and Sophia Prudhomme won 8-6 against Brett Zakheim and Cassie Tian at first doubles, and Andrea Osses Konig and Liza Bonomi nailed down a win over Batya Wiener and Brooke Schnitzlein by the same score line at second doubles.

Sofia Shen rounded out the scoring with a win at third singles, beating Rachel Musheyev 8-1.
