U.S. Open Review: The Top 10 List

10. The Grounds
We bid adieu to the Grandstand, perhaps the best place to watch on the grounds and hello to the completed roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium with no more rain outs.

9. The Heat
It was hot and humid with a record 12 first round retirements (16 in total). Many matches were affected and Jack Sock’s retirement was a scary on-court moment.

8. The Goodbyes
Say goodbye to Mardy Fish and former champ Lleyton Hewitt. The most shocking farewell was from Flavia Pennetta because she announced it after her stunning win.

7. The Comebacks
It was a strong effort by Simona Halep and a bathtub respectively, to derail Victoria Azarenka and Eugenie Bouchard from the Open.

6. The Donalds
Donald Young made a strong run and "The Donald" himself Trumped all the other celebrities at the Venus-Serena match.

5. The Conspiracy Theories
The Internet was abuzz that "the fix was in" when the Williams Sisters met in a quarterfinals match and the semifinals were determined by the "Drake Conspiracy." No comment here other than to say that I wish I had a dime for every time a heard it said.

4. The Italians
No one could have predicted that the finals would be between close friends Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci. While it lacked the high drama of Serena playing for a Calendar Slam, it was a match that demonstrated that guts, guile and hustle still matter.

3. Roger
Roger Federer is the greatest of all time and he's playing great, but at 34 years of age, he does not match up to the speed and athleticism of Novak Djokovic.

2. Serena
Only Serena (and Vinci) can beat Serena.

1. Novak
I, and practically every fan at the finals, loved Roger, but sadly, it's hard to deny that the King is dead, long live the King.
