MatchPoint NYC in Brooklyn continued its commitment to its junior programs by hosting another Junior Development Tournament to showcase and highlight the progress of its young players.

The tournament was broken up into three different divisions: 8 and under with coaches feeding the ball, 9 and under with coaches feeding the ball and 9 and under with the players serving themselves.

In the 8U division, Landon Shchur beat Anna Kagan 10-5 in the final, while Emma Shuli beat Gregory Shiff 10-4 to finish in third place.

In the 9U division where the coaches fed the balls to the kids to begin the points, Baris Guney beat Joshua Kopach 10-9 in an incredibly close final match. In the third place match Timofey Dikarev edged Joshau Barkan 10-8 in the third place match.

The top division was the 9U where the players began points by serving it themselves. Stoney Cooks knocked off Katherine Shabashkevich 3-1 to win the first place trophy, while David Grigoryan beat Maxim Smelyansky to finish in third place.

"The goal of the tournament is to introduce players to competition and to let them feel the pressure of playing with score," said MatchPoint NYC coach Sergey Igel."Players learn how to handle themselves and which shots to choose and strategy during the tournament. The tournament was a great success as players learn where they have weakness and need more work to be done as well as what they need to do better to have better results next time."
