James Madison’s Omer Khalifa won the PSAL Boys Tennis Invitational Tournament in late April, beating Townsend Harris’ Justin Chen 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

The play began with a round-robin style tournament where the players where split into four different groups with two players emerging from each, resulting in the eight quarterfinalists.

In the round-robin play, Khalifa defeated Townsend Harris’ Daniel Rusin and Francis Lewis’ Waley Chen to reach the quarterfinals.

In the final eight, Khalifa then took out Maspeth’s Patryk Bitiucki, before taking on Bitiucki’s teammate, Cosmo Amabile, in the semifinals. A 10-1 victory there elevated Khalifa into the championship match, where he took on Chen, defeating him in straight sets.

Finishing in third place was Amabile, who won 6-2, 6-3 over Eden Ksendzovsky of McKee/Staten Island Tech in the consolation match.
