Queens College head women's tennis coach Alan Nagel and men's and women's assistant coach Fabio Minami have been honored with regional awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Nagel was named Wilson/ITA East Region Coach of the Year, while Minami earned East Region ITA Assistant Coach of the Year for both men and women.
This past fall, Nagel won East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Tennis Coach of the Year for the 11th time after he led the Knights to their 17th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament, winning the East Region II title this spring and earning the team's sixth Round of 16 appearance in the last eight seasons.
Queens, ranked 44th in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings and second in the region, went 14-4 overall this season and 6-1 in the ECC.
Minami collects his first-ever postseason award after assisting both the Knights' men's and women's teams. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 and combined for 29 wins this season.
"Fabio has proven to be a major asset to our tennis program and is one of the hardest working assistant coaches, working with both the women's and men's teams, and supporting their success," Nagel said of Minami.
In addition to assisting the women's team in its tournament run, Minami also assisted men's head coach Somadi Druker during the men's season. The men's are ranked 39th in the ITA rankings and first in the region, went 15-6 overall this season. The Knights went 5-0 in ECC play to claim the regular season title, before taking down NYIT in the ECC Championship. Queens then defeated Post to win the NCAA East Region I title and advance to the Round of 16.
