Top Seeds Brooklyn Tech, Beacon Reach NYC Semifinals

The two top seeds in New York City’s “A” Division advanced to the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) semifinals on Thursday afternoon as both Brooklyn Technical and Beacon won their respective quarterfinal matches.

The Engineers of Brooklyn Tech cruised past Tottenville 5-0 in its quarterfinal matchup. Samuel Vagner defeated Philip Belmatch 10-4 in the first singles spot, and Philip Raytburg beat Joseph Namtalov in the second singles spot to lead the way.

Brooklyn Tech will take on Stuyvesant in the semifinals. Stuyvesant defeated previously beaten McKee/Staten Island Tech by the score of 4-1, anchored by Nicholas Pustilnik’s 10-8 victory over Christopher Kolesnik at first singles.

The second-seed Beacon beat Townsend Harris 5-0 to reach the semifinals. Beacon’s singles trio of Ameer Hosain, Ethan Leon and Felix Levine all won their respective singles matches, dropping just four games total in the process.

The Blue Demons will meet Bronx Science in the New York City semifinals. The Wolverines defeated Cardozo 4-0 in its quarterfinal on Thursday.
