New York Junior Tennis & Learning’s 28th Annual Mayors Cup All-Scholastic Tennis Championships concludes this Sunday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in Crotona Park in the Bronx. The premier event for scholastic tennis players in New York City culminates with a parade, awards, scholarships, and celebration.

For more than 40 years, NYJTL has provided year-round activities and tennis instruction to promote academic enrichment, giving students and their families educational services and guidance as they transition from elementary school through college acceptance.

The free tournament—which NYJTL first hosted in 1988—provides the perfect opportunity for New York City’s junior tennis players to showcase their on-court talents. This year’s Mayors Cup All-Scholastic Tennis Championships is expected to draw more than 800 participants.

Over the course of nine days, 4th to 12th grade students from New York City Public, Private and Parochial schools are competing in 14 different Team and Individual Events. These events will include: Boys’ Varsity Singles, Boys Middle School Singles, Boys’ Elementary School Singles, Girls’ Varsity Singles, Girls’ Middle School Singles and Girls’ Varsity Doubles. Additionally, a tournament committee has selected numerous scholarship and award recipients, including the 2016 New York City Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity All-Star Tennis Teams.

The week culminates at the Cary Leeds Center with the Mayors Cup Tennis Festival & Awards Ceremony. Hundreds of tournament and program participants will enjoy the finals and festival, and there will also be an Elementary School Team competition.

This year’s Mayors Cup sponsors are: Disney; Montefiore Medical Center; New York Allergy & Sinus Centers; Verizon Wireless; EmblemHealth; Western Beef; Stack Velocity Sports Performance; and, the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development. Additional donations are being made from: Matt’s Munchies; HINT Water; and, American Summits. Participants also will include New York Metro Parents.
