Top-Seeded Isner Gunning for U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston

Defending champion John Isner has been named the top seed in the main draw of the Fayez Sarofim & Company U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. Isner currently holds his career-best ATP ranking of ninth in the world and shares the top half of the draw with two former champions, 2009 winner Lleyton Hewitt and 2007 victor Ivo Karlovic. Isner is 11-5 lifetime at River Oaks. The first match for Isner will be against a first round match-up between either Germany’s Dustin Brown and American wild card Rhyne Williams who square off Monday.

The bottom half of the draw is shared by second seed Tommy Robredo, the fourth seeded Fernando Verdasco, the fifth seed Feliciano Lopez, and 2012 champion Juan Monaco. The top four seeds—Isner and Spaniards Robredo, Almagro, and Verdasco—all have first round byes in the tournament.

At least one American has reached the semifinals of the tournament in each of the past 13 years, with Spain ranking second with the most countrymen in the tournament with five players, including four of the eight seeds.
