Winning a first round match on the grass courts of SW19 is not an unexpected feat for a high caliber player such as Serena Williams. However, coming off a year filled with life-threatening turmoil, the defending champion could not help but breakdown into sobs on Center Court, after she beat Aravane Rezai of France, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Despite Wimbledon 2011 being only the third tournament of the year for American Venus Williams, the six-time Wimbledon champion produced a powerful groundstroke game to beat her opponent, Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan, 6-3, 6-1.

Another year has gone by and we are back on the courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for Wimbledon 2011. Since last year’s Wimbledon we’ve seen the continuous dominance of world number one Rafael Nadal, the emergence of Novak Djokovic, and a changing of the guard for Roger Federer. Nonetheless, these are the three names being talked about most coming into Wimbledon 2011, each for separate reasons.

The climax of the British tennis calendar is upon us, as the world’s top players prepare to battle it out for the prestigious Wimbledon title. Wimbledon 2011 will be the 125th time that the All English Lawn Tennis Club has hosted The Championships since the first tournament in 1877.

Belgium’s Kim Clijsters, the number two player in the world, has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon 2011 due to a right foot injury. At the UNICEF Open in the Netherlands, Clijsters stumbled and injured her foot while moving to the net in her match against Romina Oprandi.

This morning, the Wimbledon draws were announced for both the men's and women's sides, which begins this Monday. The men’s draw was expected to see have some good first round matches and possible showdowns later on ... and did they ever hit the nail on the head!

Unfortunately, day one of the 125th Wimbledon Championships was shortened due to rain, forcing half of the scheduled day one matches to day two. The only men’s match that could finish after the rains had come was Andy Murray of Britian and Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain, playing under the roof on Centre Court.

And ... we’re off! The 125th Wimbledon Championships have gotten underway with a great list of matches on court today. Excuse me for being a bit perturbed as I’ve already been let down by American Donald Young and Germany’s Tommy Haas.

After exactly 50 weeks since she captured her fourth Wimbledon crown, Serena Williams, the number seven seed at this year’s Wimbledon Championship, will take to Centre Court for her first round matchup against France’s Aravane Rezai.

The seeding ceremony recently took place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where the top 32 seeds were announced for this year's Wimbledon. For the most part, the men’s seeding generally followed their actual ATP ranking.
