Lin, Livianu Move On in Malibu

The 2019 Oracle ITA Masters got underway from the campus of Pepperdine University and the Malibu Racquet Club in Malibu, Calif. on Thursday featuring some of the best college players in the country.

A number of players from local colleges headed out west to compete, including St. John’s Jessica Livianu, Jack Lin of Columbia and Stony Brook’s Jamie Wei.

Livianu took out Oakland’s Ava Thielman 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the second-round, where she will compete for a spot in the quarterfinals against the University of North Carolina’s Sara Daavettila.

Lin knocked out Monmouth’s Max Benaim 6-2, 6-1, setting up a matchup against Inigo Torre Martin of VCU. The Columbia junior also moved onto the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles draw alongside Iuliia Bryzgalova of the University of Pennsylvania.

Wei fell to Long Island native and current North Carolina star Alexa Graham, who moves on to Petra Melounova of Hawaii.
